THANKSGIVING COMES in all shapes and sizes. From the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to breaking the wishbone to getting together with those wacky yet lovable relatives, traditions vary from family to family, and that includes the families of our practice’s team members!
“After our traditional turkey dinner, my grandmother always gathers all the children and brings out a special pinata! We never know what it will be filled with, sometimes candy or other times special treats like quarters and rolled up dollar bills.”
“My grandmother always made the best povitica! She brought the recipe with her when she immigrated to the United States. It has always been a closely guarded family secret and my husband and I are carrying on the tradition this year.”
“Our family enjoys getting together and watching Christmas Vacation every year, its the perfect way to start the season off right.”
“My mother-in-law started a new tradition with my little ones. Every year she brings them a special present of Christmas pajamas and a new bedtime story book. They look forward to it every year!”
“Instead of the traditional pumpkin pie, my family has always made squash pie. My grandpa is an extraordinary gardener and he grows his own special strand of squash. That combined with his special recipe makes the most amazing pie!”
“One year my grandma had a stray dog snatch the turkey right off of the kitchen table! Once she caught the dog she took the turkey and cut off the piece that was in its mouth before continuing to serve it for dinner. She never told us until many years later.”
“My aunt tried her hand at baking a pumpkin pie… only she used salt instead of sugar. That first bite was quite the surprise!”
“Every year for as long as I can remember my dad stands out in the cold and fries the most delicious turkey. It is one of our favorite parts of the meal. Thankfully, he hasn’t burnt anything down yet either!”
“My grandmother was an exceptional cook, but one year she for some reason she decided to make instant mashed potatoes. Needless to say she never lived that one down!”
“The best part of Thanksgiving growing up, was waking up and running downstairs with my sisters to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with our grandpa. He would make us special hot chocolate and we all would snuggle down on the couch and watch the floats.”
